CHENGDU · THREE FULL DAYS

3-Day Chengdu Itinerary: Pandas, Teahouses and an Unhurried City Visit

Keep one day for the Chengdu Panda Base and two for the city: People's Park and Kuanzhai on one day, Wuhou Shrine and Jinli on another. This gives a first visit room for meals and breaks without adding a long excursion every morning. The order can change around your confirmed panda reservation and the weather.

The three-day plan

DayMain activitySecond stopWhat to settle first
1People's Park and a tea breakKuanzhai Alley if you feel like walkingA convenient hotel base and arrival plan
2Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda BreedingRest, then an optional easy dinner outingCorrect panda site, session and entry gate
3Wuhou Shrine MuseumJinli and a relaxed mealMuseum admission and your departure time

This route assumes three full days in Chengdu. For a shorter visit, keep the panda day and choose one city day. Do not compress three days by removing every meal and rest stop. If you want Leshan, Dujiangyan or a mountain trip, replace a whole day and research that journey separately.

Before you arrive

Choose a hotel by the actual map location, transport connections and room requirements. A central address can reduce backtracking for the city days, but it does not make the Panda Base a short walk away. Save the hotel's Chinese name and exact branch, and use our hotel-booking checklist before paying.

Check the airport or station printed on your ticket. Chengdu Tianfu (TFU) and Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU) are different airports; do not borrow a transfer estimate for one when landing at the other. Plan the arrival journey as a separate task and avoid a prepaid attraction immediately after landing.

Prepare your map and destination names, mobile payment options, and a cash backup. A successful setup at home is useful preparation, not a guarantee that every booking or shop payment will work.

For the complete landing journey, use the TFU/CTU airport-to-hotel guide: compare the final hotel leg, luggage and late-arrival fallback before counting your first sightseeing day.

Still choosing a base? Compare Chunxi Road, Tianfu Square and People’s Park/Kuanzhai against your city days, Panda departure and luggage before choosing a hotel branch.

Day 1: People's Park, then a short neighborhood walk

Begin at People's Park (人民公园) and leave time for sitting down. A teahouse break works best as part of the visit, rather than a drink squeezed in while waiting for the next ride. Look at the menu and ask the price before ordering; do not assume a quoted price includes every snack or additional service.

The route here is our planning suggestion, not a claim to have inspected a particular teahouse or negotiated a price. Respect people using the park in their everyday lives and ask before close-up photographs. If you prefer a quieter break, look for a seat that suits your group instead of waiting for a particular photo spot.

After lunch, decide whether you want the Kuanzhai Alley area (宽窄巷子). Check the route from your actual park exit and take the walk at your own pace. You can browse a small area, stop for another drink, or return to the hotel. You do not need to add every popular shopping district to the same afternoon.

Use dinner to work out what suits your group. Our food-ordering guide covers practical language checks. Asking for less chili is not the same as communicating an allergy, and a mild-looking dish should not be assumed suitable for a dietary restriction. Keep your requirements clear and specific.

Day 2: choose the correct panda site

This itinerary means the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (成都大熊猫繁育研究基地). It does not mean Panda Valley in Dujiangyan (都江堰熊猫谷). The Base's Chinese ticket page explicitly separates the two ticket products; its English page gives Base visitor instructions.

Those pages describe real-name booking with morning and afternoon entry sessions and list exceptions for eligible older visitors and children. Check the conditions for each member of your group rather than assuming that everyone needs the same ticket. This article does not generalize a concession to every foreign document or age boundary.

Book an available session first, then plan transport to the correct gate for that booking. An early visit is our scheduling preference when it fits your confirmed ticket, not a promise of active pandas or an empty park. Do not arrive for a morning entry on an afternoon ticket.

Carry the original document used for the reservation and the saved order. Current ticket guidance includes passports in the original-document entry route. Ask staff which lane to use with your passport; do not rely on the English lane label being displayed exactly as written, or assume that a document photograph will replace your original in every circumstance.

For the reservation itself, use our Chengdu Panda Base booking and entry guide: date/session selection, passport and order checks, phone/payment problems and gate preparation.

Keep the panda visit manageable

Choose a small number of viewing areas after checking the current site map. Leave space for walking between them, waiting and resting. Animal location, visibility and behavior are not guaranteed, so avoid promising a child a particular panda or an exact photograph before you arrive.

Follow staff instructions around the enclosures. Take a break when the group needs it rather than trying to finish every area. Before leaving, confirm your exit and return pickup location; the point where a car dropped you off may not be the correct pickup point later.

Make the afternoon a recovery block. An easy meal near your hotel is a complete plan. If everyone still has energy, choose one short city outing after resting. Do not attach a Leshan trip to the panda day simply because both attractions appear in a regional guide.

Day 3: Wuhou Shrine and Jinli

Make Wuhou Shrine Museum (武侯祠博物馆) the main cultural stop. Read a short introduction to the Three Kingdoms period before going, or choose an interpretation option from the venue after confirming language and cost. The museum's official introduction explains its history and the relationship of its grounds to the Jinli pedestrian area.

Check current museum entry arrangements for your date. Time in Jinli is not a substitute for a museum admission product, and an event package should not be assumed to follow ordinary-day terms. This itinerary leaves admission prices and opening details to the live operator notice instead of carrying forward festival-specific offers.

Continue to Jinli (锦里) for a browse and a meal if it suits your group. Pick a few things you actually want to try rather than treating every stall as a required stop. Allow a seated break; three days of “gentle” city sightseeing can still involve plenty of walking.

A riverside outing around Anshun Bridge (安顺廊桥) can replace the evening if you want a different setting. It is an optional separate journey, not another stop you must complete. Check the return route and finish early if you travel onward the next day.

Adapt the plan without losing the useful parts

Rain or heat: shorten outdoor walks, choose a suitable indoor break, and move city days if that helps. A panda ticket does not automatically move with your preferred itinerary; check changes through the original channel.

Young children or slower walkers: reduce the second stop first. Confirm any essential step-free access for the specific venue and route; a taxi can remove a transfer but not the walking inside an attraction.

Only two full days: combine a short park visit with one other city area, and keep the panda day focused. Leshan is essential: replace Day 3 and rebuild that day around its transport and entry requirements. Do not treat it as spare-time sightseeing.

Budget and booking checklist

Separate hotel nights, airport travel, city transport, panda admission, museum admission and meals. Check what any advertised bundle actually includes. A cheap ticket with an unsuitable pickup point can create a more expensive day once the extra journeys are added.

Use the foreign-passport attraction checklist for document and order checks. If Xi'an is another stop, our Xi'an three-day itinerary provides a separate city plan; add the intercity travel time rather than joining the two day counts mechanically.

Make it personal

Use this complete free route and adjust it yourself. If your dates, pace or arrival/departure times differ, a human-reviewed English itinerary PDF for 2–8 days can organize those conditions into a personal route. We do not provide bookings, guides, transport, tickets or live support.
